Therion: S:t Petersburg & Samara, October 16-17

The last 2 gigs of the Russian Tour !

October 16

Lobby-call at 07:00 am.

Flight from Minsk to S:t Petersburg.
S.t Petersburg is such a beautiful city ! In some areas it reminds a bit about Stockholm with all the views of water.
Very nice hotel and the venue as well !
We had a local support band.

Had a great dinner with a wonderful view !

Wonderful View from the restaurant where we had dinner in S:t Petersburg before the show.

The audience was a bit more laid back from the beginning but as the set moved on we managed to to push it to the limit !

We had the usual after-show-pizza and then we went with the shuttle back to the hotel.
I had ”some issues” and had to go to a 24/7 open farmacy after midnight.
Had a hard time to fall asleep….. Guess I only slept for about 3,5 hours…

October 17 HELLDAY ! – Travelling to Samara

Lobby call at 06:00 !!
So – lack of sleep this day too !!!
Shuttle to the airport for flight to Samara. The last gig in Russia on this tour.

Thomas Vikström took this picture at the airport in Minsk ! – So Freaking Funny !!! 😀

We were supposed to land at Samara airport at 11:15 but the weather was really shitty……Windy, rainy and foggy. First we started to go down for landing….then we went up again…..down again….up again…..about 4 times. The plane was flying in circles and it seemed that the pilot must have been in confusion about what to do (?) Looking out the windows was like staring into a glass of milk ! Totally white ! We couldn´t see a shit !
Finally we got the message that due to the weather and that the device for landing (the tower) at Samara airport was broken !??? We had to go another 45 minutes for landing at Kazan airport instead.
Of course started to wonder how the hell we were going to make it to the show ?
Discussions started about the options……
We landed in Kazan and went out of the plane in to the airport.

With our Great Backline Technician “Havok”

There we had to pick up everything at the baggage-claim……Waited and waited for information about what was going to happen. Finally we could check in once again and we had new tickets. But of course we had to go through the security check once again. Then we went out – TO THE SAME PLANE !!! There we waited for I don´t know how looong ?….until we got the message ”Technical problems with the airplane” We had to get off the plane again !!! After that – Long waiting – once again……!!! When we finally got the message about boarding, it was – Yes ! – The Same Plane as twice before ! So this was our third boarding today ! By now about 2/3 of the passangers had chosen other ways to go to Samara, but we had no choice with all our equipment. It would also cause more delay. Of course we were all worried about boarding this shitty plane again ! – Was it really safe ?
Anyway – Off we went and everything was ok except for some shaking because of the wind and rain !

We finally arrived to the hotel in Samara – 8 hours delayed !! Luckily enough the venue didn´t have a curfew so the promotor gave us the message that it would be okay to play late.
We just let off our suitcases and – off to the venue.

Quick soundcheck for us and Arkona. The audience was waiting patiently in a corridor that was leading into the venue.
TomTom (Our Tourmanager) was really pissed off because of the staff that had been there all day hadn´t fixed everything properly with the equipment that was already there. They surely had the time to do it….!

Arkona has their flute and bagpipe player Vladimir with them as they also had in Minsk.
They played a shortened set. We shortened ours with 2 songs.
Dispite the lack of sleep and everything around this shitty day we did a very good gig at this smaller club. The audience was very enthusiastic all through the show ! Really great !
Afterwards I did a short interview for a Russian Internet site that is about bassplayers !

We got back to the hotel very late, about 2 am and we had the lobby call at 6:30 am.

I got about 2,5 hours sleep ! Then the next trip to Belgium and the Female Metal Voices Festival.
First to Moscow. From there to Helsinki, and then to Belgium.

At the airport in Helsinki when writing this…..and I just long for a bed and some sleep !!

Backstage Pass from The Russian Tour.

My Last Live Performance with THERION

I did my last live performance with Therion at Brutal Assault Festival, Czech Republic August 7th 2019. I made the final decision a couple of months ago, so everybody in the band and the crew knew this was gonna be my last appearance on stage with them. The reason is that the long touring is

Mental illness – My Story

Much too often I meet people who feel psychologically bad. Those are people who really do have a good life practically, economically etc ….. but still they feel bad, suffering from anxiety or depression. What is really ”required” to feel good ? Or maybe just to allow yourself to feel good? It can often be
