THERION: PEKING & SHANGHAI
The week before leaving for China was really hectic !
We had the rehearsals at Villa Adulruna, and then I went straight back home every day to record for the forthcoming album of L.A.D.
But I made it in time ! All the 11 songs 🙂
Sami Karppinen is playing the drums on this tour as stand-in for Johan Koleberg.
Sami used to be the drummer of Therion before. He played on “Secret of the runes”, “Deggial” and “Live in Midgard”. The last years he has been the drum- technician for Johan. The rehearsals went on really great with him ! 🙂
We left from Stockholm, Arlanda Airport at noon. First to Moscow for connection
and then straight to Peking, 6 hours flight. The plane was half empty so I could lay down to sleep a bit. We arrived at about 04:00 local time. A very pleasant trip with nice staff and good food !
Jesse, a promotor from Taiwan and a colleague of his picked us up at the airport and took us to Yong An hotel where we had breakfast.
In the evening we all went to a very nice restaurant. Fantastic Chinese food !
There´s a bad Internet-connection here for a European and the regular FaceBook that we´re used to, doesn´t work. China has their own FaceBook only in chinese of course.
By 08:00 am we met at the lobby to go to visit “The Forbidden City”. Unfortunately it was closed this day because of the preparing for Independence Day tomorrow. Instead we walked the city and just took a look around there. It felt really strange and a bit weird to know that just a couple of days ago I was at home and now walking around in China ! – Funny Feeling !
People are nice and I really can´t feel anything of the “so polluted air” here in Peking as I´ve heard so much about…..The city is very clean and modern.
The most unusual and a bit weird thing was visiting a public toilet – seeing three men sitting in a row on the floor right beside each other – shitting ! Man – That was weird !!!
We went back to the hotel and I had some more sleep. Then off with our friends in the Russian band Arkona to the venue.
There were some technical problems with the P.A.-system but TomTom, our tourmanager fixed it of course !
We played at a smaller venue for a few hundred very enthusiastic fans. At 09:10 pm we went on stage after a Death Metal Band from Hong Kong and of course – ARKONA.
We had cut the set to only about 70 minutes. We use to play around 2 hours……
Everything went fine, but as always there are things that can get better. But it was ok to be the first gig of the tour.
Afterwards we spent some time in the dressingrooms and then straight to the hotel and directly to bed for me !
For some strange reason I could´t fall asleep until about 04:00 am…
And another funny thing here at the hotel: The floor is softer than the bed !!! 😀
