Yesterday I was very surprised when I saw that I had been chosen as the best Bassplayer 2010 by the site
I´m very happy about it ! 🙂
2010 was a year with lots of recording for me.
I played on 7 full-length albums and I also recorded some singles and other stuff too…..
I call myself a “meat & potato bassplayer” which means I go for the more “simple” basslines….. but I always add a lot of power, balls and heart into it and try to make it “swing” as much as possible.
It´s also important to me to play as melodic as possible.
I think you shouldn´t only “play the song”. Before you record it you got to “get in to the song”, sort of “live it” to get the right feeling both for yourself and for the listener.
The band TREAT that I play with also got the award “Best album of the year 2010” (Coup de Grace) and in some interviews last year that I did, some of the journalists told me they were impressed by my way of playing and my sound………. and I told them:
“I recorded every song like my life depended on it, or like I was having good sex!!” 😀
And that´s actually the truth ! 🙂
But I record everything very spontanious and don´t think very much about what I play….. The most important thing is HOW you do it and that it FEELS good!
Many listeners may not even notice what the bassplayer does, but I´m sure they can feel it if you do it the right way !
I have never been and will never be a virtuoso . I have no interest in that. But I can play much more than I show with any of the bands I play with…… but what´s the point of using it when there´s no need for it ?
Anyway: Thanks a lot to MelodicRock !
– You made my day !
